Our Temporary hours are

Monday to Thursday 8:30am to Noon, 1:00pm to 5:30pm

Friday Closed, due to staff shortage.

We do not have x-ray, surgical and dental facilities on site. For x-ray, surgeries and dentistry we are using several other clinics depending on the service required. We are working on building our new clinic within the Admirals Walk Plaza and anticipate being full service ourselves sometime in 2023.

Our Clinic

We opened our doors in 1998 and have been here since. We operate on a principal from the movie Field of Dreams …“if you build it they will come!” What we hope to build is a trust that you know we will always have your pet’s best interest at heart and will try whenever possible to look after your pet as we would one of our own.

We offer a wide variety of pet supplies

Dr. Amanda Ahokas

With Dr. Cohen reducing his hours at the clinic Dr. Amanda Ahokas is now the Medical Director

Dr. Amanda grew up in Coleman, Alberta. She graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. After practicing in Fort McMurray, Nanaimo and Parksville she finally settled in Victoria with her husband in 2011.

Dr. Amanda has 15 years of experience. She is passionate about dentistry and believes every animal deserves to have a pain free mouth. She also enjoys educating clients about wellness and preventative care. When she is not at the clinic she is at her other full time job as Mom to her two kids and is actively involved with the parent advisory council at her children’s school.

The Ahokas family currently shares their home with a lazy cat named Kissa (pronounced Kee-sa) which means cat in Finnish and a black Labrador named Willow who is training to complete in agility. Dr. Amanda has always loved dog sports. She and her previous black lab Maple competed at the AAC National Agility Competition at Spruce Meadows in 2010.

Dr. Rick R. Cohen

Dr. Cohen or as he prefers to be called “Rick” first moved to the Island in 1982.

Originally from the prairies he had never seen so much rain nor did he truly know what “sea sickness” felt like. After living in remoteness for almost two years he decided he definitely was a city boy and weekend outdoor adventurer. He moved back to the prairies where he worked with human pharmaceutical companies in sales.

Rick has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1990 when he graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine with “Distinction”. He started working at a busy local practice and doing house calls but became interested in emergency medicine and worked for seven years as an emergency doctor at Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital. He has consulted with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in marine mammal medicine and often donned his hip waders to assist in whale autopsies.

Dr. Cohen opened Admirals walk Pet Clinic in November of 1998 and has been providing quality medical care ever since. He has done a lot of training in pet loss support and acts as a consultant on the “pet loss support line”. He has lectured publicly on this subject and offered workshops for veterinary and veterinary support staff. He will gradually be reducing his hours in June of 2021 Dr. Cohen sold the practice to a Canadian Pet Veterinary Partners their practice philosophy and values mirrored his, he will be working one or two days a week until further notice.
